Power of Attorney
A power of attorney is a document granting another person, known as the Agent, the legal authority to make decisions on your behalf (The Principal). Having a power of attorney gives you the ability to choose a trusted individual to make decisions for you whether it be a medical decision or business decision when you are unable to do so yourself.
Healthcare Power of Attorney:
A healthcare power of attorney allows you to give another trusted individual the legal authority to make important medical decisions regarding your care should you become unable to do so. A healthcare power of attorney will generally only become effective when a physician or other medical doctor has determine that you are unable to make your own medical decisions due to unconsciousness, or incompetency.
Durable Power of Attorney:
A Durable Power of Attorney allows you to give a trusted individual the authority to care take of important matters for you. A Durable Power of Attorney simply means the document will stay in effect even after the principal becomes incapacitated or mentally incompetent if a physician or other medical doctor deems you unable to make the decisions on your behalf due to unconsciousness, or incompetency.
